A Shadow Crown by Melissa Blair [Book #2]
Content Tags: Fantasy, LGBTQIA+, Death, Murder
Description from Storygraph:
The highly anticipated second installment of the fantasy saga that took BookTok by storm sees Keera navigate political scheming, backstabbing, and her own grief as she moves against the cruel king that holds her kingdom hostage.
To the kingdom, Keera is the king’s Blade, his most feared and trusted spy and assassin. But in the shadows, she works with Prince Killian and his Shadow—the dark, brooding Fae, Riven, who sets her blood on fire. Together, they plot to topple the crown that sits upon the king’s head.
A secret can only survive as long as its conspirators, and when nothing is as it seems, all are in danger. Keera swore she would never open her heart again after a loss she barely survived. But she will soon find she has more to lose than she ever imagined . . .

Damn, I've been slacking on posting. It has not been easy to find motivation to read or write anything of late as the world burns to the ground ever faster. Anywho...
This book was as brilliant as the first. I was really nervous with the way the first book ended that I would be inconsolable as things progressed in the second book. But as with all the hard moments and topics, Melissa Blair handled that transition and the emotions with such care. There are so many things happening and so many twists and turns and all of them have been crafted so expertly. I raced through to find out just what would happen! (And now I'm dealing with the impatience of waiting for book 3 which doesn't come out until next year?!?)
Book Reflection Wrap-up:
Which scene has stuck with you the most?
I don't want to spoil anything, so vaguely there is a moment where, without hesitation, Keera is willing to sacrifice herself for someone who showed her a kindness in some of her darkest hours and it really pulled at my emotions. Kindness can mean so much, even when it seems so small.
Would you want to read another book by this author?
Duh. Give me book 3 now please!
