Fangirl: The Manga by Rainbow Rowell and Illustrated by Gabi Nam [Volume #3]

Content Tags: Mental Health, Hospitalization, Trauma, Grief

Description from Storygraph:
Everything in Cath’s offline life is going wrong. Just when she’s started to realize her feelings for Levi, she sees him kissing someone else. Plus, her writing partner, Nick, is acting strange, and her twin sister, Wren, is suddenly making time for their mother—the same woman who walked out of their lives ten years ago!
Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, everybody is a Simon Snow fan, but for Cath, being a fan is her life. Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath just can’t let go…

When their dad ends up in the hospital, Cath decides it’s time to rethink her plans for the future.
But how can she leave the past behind when it keeps showing up at her door?

The manga adaptation of the beloved novel featuring all-new scenes by Rainbow Rowell!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I'm really enjoying these manga adaptations of Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. The "all-new scenes by Rainbow Rowell" was a bit strange in this third installment, though. The first two volumes seemed to follow the original book very closely, so it kind of surprised me when there were notable variations in this volume.

The graphics are excellent! I'm not artistic, so I love seeing how people can create things that capture the emotions, personas, or other representations in their art. I have thoroughly enjoyed how Gabi Nam have brought the scenes and characters to life in the illustrations.

Book Reflection Wrap-up:
What was your favorite part of the book?
There's a scene where Cath is reading to Levi and the illustrations of Levi's commentary to what's happening in the story are so freaking adorable!

Did the plot proceed in a way that felt natural?
The added scenes noted above felt out of place to me. I can't tell if it's because I was expecting something different, so it was that element that threw off the pace, or if it actually didn't flow well. *Shrug*
